‘One million Australian children are at risk of reading failure, with serious negative consequences for their quality of life and for Australian society’ (Hempenstall, 2016). Students need to be highly literate in order to succeed in school and in the workplaces of tomorrow, and one of the key roles of educators is to ensure that our students are proficient, passionate, and prepared to meet the literacy challenges of the 21st century (Morrow, 2014). Konza (2011) highlights the Big Six Foundation Skills which are critical for reading success, including: Oral Language, Phonological Awareness, Phonics, Vocabulary, Fluency, and Comprehension. This professional development website resource has been designed to assist in building capability to meet individual student needs in the following two of the Big Six Foundation Skills: vocabulary and comprehension.
